Needles Found in Sandwiches High in the Sky

(July 18, 2012) Delta Air Lines Inc. and the FBI are trying to figure out how needles got into turkey sandwiches served aboard four flights from Amsterdam to the U.S. One passenger was injured. The FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the matter. The sandwiches were made in the Amsterdam kitchen of catering company Gate Gourmet, and were to be served to business class passengers on Delta flights. A Gate Gourmet spokesperson said the company has gotten no reports of similar incidents on any of the other airlines it serves out of Amsterdam.  Read more >>

Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Minnesota Denny’s

(July 14, 2012) - Three patrons became ill between July 2 and July 7 after eating at the same Rochester Denny’s between June 27 and July 5. Officials at Olmsted County Health Services are looking into how the bacteria might have entered the restaurant, and suspect that it was being carried by a customer or employee. One more case has not been confirmed, but is thought to be part of the outbreak. Read more >>

Athena Cantelopes Recalled (July 28, 2012)

Burch Equipment LLC is recalling 580 cases of whole Athena cantaloupes due to the potential for being contaminated with listeria. Hannaford Advises Customers about Cantaloupes (July 28, 2012) Hannaford is advising customers because its stores had carried Burch Farms Athena cantaloupes. The product has been removed.

Cool Creations Recalls Gills Onions (July 27, 2012)

Cool Creations, LLC is recalling specific packages of products containing Gills onions because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Products are branded as Cool Creations, LLC or Fiesta Garden Fresh Salsa.

Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Recalled (July 27, 2012)

Arthur Dogswell LLC is recalling 1,051 cartons of Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins because it has the potential to contain propylene glycol.

Wegmans Food Markets Recall Onions (July 27, 2012)

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is recalling prepared foods that contain chopped/diced white onions as an ingredient due to a potential Listeria contamination. The onions are a product of Gill Onions, LLC.

Wimberger’s Old World Bakery & Delicatessen Conducts Voluntary Recall (July 27, 2012)

Wimberger’s Old World Bakery & Delicatessen is conducting a voluntary recall of all kaiser rolls, seeded rolls, brat buns, french bread, pretzel rolls, pretzels, pizza dough, hoagie rolls and french baguettes because they contain undeclared milk, soy and wheat.

Trader Joe’s Salsa and Balela Recalled (July 27, 2012)

Simmering Soup, Inc. is recalling Trader Joe’s brand of Salsa and Balela because the products contain diced onions that are the subject of an FDA recall. 

New York Consumers Warned Not to Eat Quesito Colombiano (July 27, 2012)

Consumers in Metropolitan New York were warned not consume “Quesito Colombiano, Colombian style Cheese” made by Productos Tita Corp. due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination. 

Whole Foods Market Recalls Fresh Food Items in 17 Florida Stores (July 27, 2012)

Whole Foods Market has recalled certain fresh food items sold in prepared foods departments, as well as one item sold in seafood departments, of their 17 Florida stores. The items could have been made using raw yellow onions processed by Gills Onions, LLC.

GH Foods CA Recalls Products Containing Yellow Onions (July 27, 2012)

GH Foods CA, LLC is recalling of various products containing yellow onions distributed to retail supermarkets. The products were manufactured using onions recalled by Gills.

Tony Downs Foods Company Recalls 70,500 Pounds of Chicken (July 27, 2012)

Tony Downs Foods Company is recalling approximately 70,500 pounds of premium chunk chicken due to mislabeling and an undeclared allergen, wheat. 

Enslin & Son Packing Company Recalls 314 Pounds of Sausage (July 27, 2012)

Enslin & Son Packing Company is recalling approximately 314 pounds of sausage products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

LSG Sky Chefs Recalls 735 Pounds of Chipotle Chicken (July 27, 2012)

LSG Sky Chefs is recalling approximately 735 pounds of ready-to-eat chipotle chicken wrap products. The products contain diced onions that are the subject of an FDA recall.

Huxtable’s Kitchen Recalls 5,610 Pounds of Barbeque Chicken Salads (July 27, 2012)

Huxtable’s Kitchen is recalling approximately 5,610 pounds of barbeque chicken salads. The salads contain diced onions that are the subject of the Gills Onions recall.

Piccadilly Fine Foods Recalls 79 Pounds of Chicken and Yam Pie Products (July 26, 2012)

Piccadilly Fine Foods is recalling approximately 79 pounds of chicken and yam pie products that may include a curry paste containing shrimp, a known allergen not declared on the product label.

Gill Onions Expands Recall (July 25, 2012)

Gills Onions, LLC is expanding its July 18 recall. The expanded product list includes diced, slivered and whole peeled onions and diced onion/celery mix. No illnesses have been linked to this recall. Their facility has been out of service since July 17, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Mount Franklin Foods Recalls Indian Corn (July 24, 2012)

Mount Franklin Foods, LLC is recalling one lot of Sunrise Indian Corn because the candy contains undeclared milk and sulfites.

Peg Perego Recalls Two Strollers (July 24, 2012)

Peg Perego is recalling two different strollers manufactured between January 2004 and September 2007. A 2004 infant strangulation occurred as a seat and the tray postioning. Another near strangulation occurred in 2006. Free repair kits will be made available which will increase the stroller openings and prevent infant entrapment and strangulation hazards.

Sartori Inspirations Recalls Ciolo Brands in Whole Foods Market Stores (July 24, 2012)

Sartori Inspirations, LLC is recalling a small number of Ciolo branded products distributed to some Whole Foods Market stores. The items may contain onions from Gills Onions.Spillson’s LTD Recalls Beef Sandwiches (July 23, 2012) Spillson’s LTD is recalling 4 ounce Texas BBQ Beef sandwiches because they contain an undeclared soy flour and wheat flour.

Cargill Meat Solutions Recalls More Than 29,000 Pounds of Fresh Ground Beef Products (July 22, 2012)

Cargill Meat Solutions is recalling 29,339 pounds of fresh ground beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. These products were sold wholesale for further processing.

PMI Nutrition International Expands Recall of AquaMax (July 20, 2012)

PMI Nutrition International has expanded their July 3, July 6 and July 12 recalls of AquaMax™ animal feed to include additional varieties of Mazuri® and LabDiet® due to elevated vitamin D levels.

Wellements Recalls Prune Concentrate Liquid Dietary Supplement (July 20, 2012)

Wellements LLC is recalling Baby Move™ Prune Concentrate liquid dietary supplement because the supplier of one of the ingredients used in the product, Ingreidion, has indicated that the ingredient has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

X-ROCK Pill For Men and Z-Rock Products Recalled by CRM Labratories (July 20, 2012)

CRM Laboratories is conducting a consumer/user level recall of all X-ROCK 3 Day Pill For Men and Z-ROCK products that may contain sildenafil and hydroxythiohomosildenafil, making these products unapproved new drugs.

Tita Products Recalls Fresh Cheeses (July 19, 2012)

Tita Products is recalling certain fresh cheeses due to the improper pasteurization of the milk used to make the cheese. Proper pasteurization effectively eliminates all pathogenic bacteria.

Cass-Clay Creamery Recalls Ice Cream Products (July 19, 2012)

Cass-Clay Creamery is recalling three ice cream products because they may contain undeclared allergens, Brazil nuts.

TRUMPF Medical Systems Recalls Television Mounting Systems (July 18, 2012)

TRUMPF Medical Systems Inc. is recalling 220 television mounting systems. The arm joints on the television mounting system do not have a washer at the top joint which can result in excessive wear of the stop pins on the arm, posing a fall hazard. 

Ford Recalls Certain Model 2013 Escape Vehicles (July 18, 2012)

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through July 11, 2012, and equipped with a 1.6L engine. These vehicles have an engine compartment fuel line which may split, resulting in a leak.

Feed Solutions Recalls Variety of Feed Products (July 13, 2012)

Feed Solutions is recalling certain varieties of the feed products due to the potential for elevated vitamin D levels.

Land O’Lakes Recalls Specific Lots of Feed Products (July 13, 2012)

Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC is recalling of specific lots of Purina® feed products due to the potential for elevated vitamin D levels.

Westone Laboratories Recalls Ear Lubricant (July 13, 2012)

Westone Laboratories, Inc. is initiating a nationwide recall of all sizes and packaging configurations of Oto-Ease® ear lubricant. The products have been found through a consumer complaint and the FDA sample analysis to be potentially contaminated with pathogenic bacteria and mold.

Buona Vita Recalls Three Meatball Products (July 10, 2012)

Hannaford Supermarkets alerted customers to a recall issued by New Jersey-based Buona Vita Inc. of three meatball products, due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Buona Vita Recalls Nearly 325,000 Pounds of Frozen Meat and Poultry (July 7, 2012)

Buona Vita, Inc. is recalling approximately 324,770 pounds of various frozen, ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The problem was discovered through microbiological testing by FSIS and the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). 

Class-Clay Creamery Recalls Hornbacher Products (July 6, 2012)

Cass-Clay Creamery is recalling Hornbacher’s Peppermint Bon Bon Light, Schroeder Peppermint Bon Bon and SunnyBrook Peppermint Bon Bon Light due to undeclared eggs.

Pacific International Marketing Recalls Romaine Lettuce (July 6, 2012)

Pacific International Marketing is voluntarily recalling 19 cases of bulk Romaine Lettuce sold at Vons and Pavilions stores in California and Nevada due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Fruiti Pops Recalls 178 Dozen Dessert Bars (July 3, 2012)

Fruiti Pops, Inc. is recalling 178 dozen Fruiti Pops Classic Coconut frozen dessert bars because they may contain undeclared egg yolk.

California State Veterinarian Recalls Multiple Lots of Andante Dairy Cheese (July 3, 2012)

Multiple lots of cheeses made by Andante Dairy are the subject of a recall and quarantine order announced by California State Veterinarian Dr. Annette Whiteford. The quarantine is based on a determination that a lack of proper pasteurization could have allowed pathogens to survive in the product.

New York Consumers Warned Not to Eat Mexicali Cheese Products (July 2, 2012)

New York consumers were warned not to consume certain cheese products made by Mexicali Cheese Corp. due to possible Listeria contamination.
