Dean Roberts

Account Associate, Michigan Office

What inspired you to make a career move to HNI?

The team-oriented work style and the way co-workers interact with each other. When looking for my first job the culture of the company was something I put a big focus on. I made it my priority to find a company that fit my desired culture and HNI fit perfectly.

What were you most surprised to learn about HNI?Roberts, Dean

I was surprised by how organized the training was. Three days before my first day I had already gotten a schedule for my first including who I would be mentoring and what I would be doing for different times of the day. I had not worked at a company that was that organized and invested in my learning and development.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I traveled to Denmark in the summer of 2015 to train Greco-Roman wrestling with the Danish world team for two weeks. Although Denmark is not known for being a powerhouse in the international styles of wrestling, one of the guys on Denmark’s national team that trained with us was a 4-time World silver medalist and one time Olympic Silver medalist.

How do you plan to spend your mandatory 1 week unplug?

My brother is going to be competing for a spot on the United States world team for Greco-Roman at the end of June. If he makes the team and earns a spot to compete in the World Championship in Budapest I plan on going to support him for his first Senior level World Championship.

Why did you choose the Insurance Industry as a career?

I had studied insurance and risk management while in college and that is where it actually began. I was introduced to the insurance industry while on my recruiting visit for wrestling. I Took a few courses in my first semester and found that there was more to the insurance industry than I had thought.
