THE ROADRUNNER Story
Roadrunner Transportation Systems has grown into one of the largest transportation companies in the country - thanks in part to multiple acquisitions. This dramatic growth brought together different cultures and different ways of doing things, and it soon became clear that Roadrunner ran the risk of a divided culture consisting of several silos.
The challenge was most apparent when it came to reinforcing safety initiatives. Roadrunner leadership recognized that while they thrive on entrepreneurial spirit, safety was a non-negotiable. They set a lofty goal to achieve world-class safety and reduce their Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) by having a consistent code of conduct. So, in 2013 Roadrunner and HNI set out to create a synergy between leadership, operations and safety to create a consistent safety culture enterprise-wide.
A PLAN TO DE-RISK
To figure out how to bring multiple different safety cultures together as one, Roadrunner decided to host a summit. They brought together leaders from each of the different operating companies to figure out a way to come together for a common purpose: world-class safety.
The bybroduct of this summit is the GAMECHANGER CHALLENGE. This platform helped Roadrunner move forward with unity and a thread that was consistent across all their operating companies. Leaders from across the country pledged their commitment to the cause by signing and hanging a banner at each of their locations.
