Many individuals that lost their job and employer-sponsored health insurance prior to December 31, 2009 were eligible for federal assistance in the amount of 65% of their COBRA premiums for up to nine months. In December 2009, this law was extended to provide assistance for up to 15 months. Individuals that lose their job and employer-sponsored health insurance prior to February 28, 2010 will also be eligible for the subsidy. While this law provides financial assistance for individuals that lose their jobs during these tough economic times, employers must be prepared for the financial and administrative burdens this extension places on them.  More>>
